Each year, the BWPA makes a number of awards and scholarships to recognise the achievements of women in aviation and support them in further flying endeavours.
Previous winners have included women who have gone on to gain their PPLs, become commercial pilots and gain additional qualifications such as aerobatic and tail wheel endorsements, and the first woman to cross the English Channel by paramotor.
Our scholarships vary from year to year, with our committee working closely with outside organisations and potential sponsors to gain support to assist women to achieve their aviation goals.
In 2019, we were able to offer seven scholarships to successful women applicants, including to support gaining a first PPL to completing ATPL ground school. For the first time in many years we also secured sponsorship for Taster Flights for aspiring pilots to enable them to experience powered flight.
