Members in the north east can join a new regional group.

BWPA member and proud Geordie, Lara Greggs, has taken on the role of leading the new North East Regional Group.

Realising there was a gap in the regional groups, Lara worked with Claire Hatton, Membership Coordinator and North West Regional Representative, to launch the new group.

Lara has been flying since she was 16. Now 19, she is currently working towards her Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) exams at Skyborne Aviation Academy at Gloucestershire Airport, alongside looking after the new group for members in the north east.

“It is great being able to bring together aviation enthusiasts who live and fly in similar areas,” Lara explained. “COVID has limited how much we can get together in person, but all regional groups use WhatsApp and Zoom so we can still chat, and share information.”

Launched at the end of 2021, the group currently has 13 members from across the north east region, including Leeds and Newcastle. The members include student pilots, both private and commercial, as well as instructors. The group held their first get together over Zoom, with a guest speaker who is a First Officer at TUI, and is hoping to meet in person in the summer.

Lara said, “We hope to organise a fly in, perhaps to Eshott Airfield or Leeds East Airport.”
