A highly successful first virtual meet-up
Coronavirus is impacting on all our lives and restrictions in the UK are tightening. Alongside the general frustrations that lockdown is bringing, it is a gruelling time for aviation of all kinds. But it has been exciting to see how many people and organisations are finding innovative ways to support each other.
We feel that creating opportunities for us to come together and share our passion for the sky is particularly important right now. That is why last weekend we held our first virtual meet-up.
Thirty people joined the online chat, from brand new students to commercial pilots with many years of experience. Our new Chairwoman, Sharon Nicholson, kicked off the event with a short talk about some of her career highlights. Others on the call then spoke about their experiences of flying in the UK and some of the challenges they are currently facing. Finally, Sue Tuddenham, who coordinates our scholarships, answered questions about the application process and shared her tips for success.
“It was great to meet so many new people,” said Annabel Cook, who set up and facilitated the meeting. “Community spirit and mutual support are core to the BWPA, and I am delighted that everyone embraced such a positive attitude towards our new venture.”
Everyone who took part agreed they had enjoyed the chance to meet each other and that more virtual events would be welcomed. Options are being explored – watch our events page for more news as it becomes available.
