Charlotte’s Long Lost Aircraft Reunion
Having grown up around general aviation, it was a real full-circle moment for me when I discovered that the aircraft I had watched my dad build over 17 years had found a new home with fellow BWPA member, Melanie Jackson. Inspired by my parents, who are both PPL holders, I earned my own PPL in 2022 and have continued our family’s longstanding passion for flying.
My dad, Robert, had lost track of G-EZUB, a Zenair CH 601 HD, after selling it 12 years ago. The aircraft first flew in late 2011, following a 17-year build that spanned five house moves during his Army career. I grew up with the project always featuring in the background, so the aircraft has always been a part of my life.
Recently, I received a pleasant surprise whilst on the BWPA North West Regional Group chat, when I discovered that Melanie was now the owner of G-EZUB. It was completely unexpected to come across the aircraft again after all these years.

My dad and I recently met Melanie at Otherton Airfield in Staffordshire for a long-awaited reunion with G-EZUB. It was wonderful to see the aircraft in such good hands and to hear about Melanie’s plans to return it to the skies after it has been grounded for several years. Seeing the aircraft again brought back many memories, and it was especially meaningful to know that its story is continuing with another BWPA member. I look forward to following Melanie’s progress and seeing the aircraft back in the skies once more.
