Catching up with our 2021 scholarship winners

In 2021, we awarded 19 scholarships to our members. A year on, as we look forward to launching the 2022 scholarships, we caught up with some of last year’s winners to see what they are up to and what they have achieved with the support of their scholarships.

Rachel Harvey – BWPA Flying Start Scholarship

“Winning one of the BWPA Flying Start Scholarships in 2021 allowed me to further progress my Private Pilot Licence (PPL) training without having to consider my finances before every lesson or exam. I was able to complete the remaining ground school exams and undertake my first solo flight. This marked a huge milestone for me and really cemented the joy and exhilaration that flying provides.

I am now in the process of trying to build up some solo flying hours in preparation for my cross country flight and would like to thank the BWPA for being such a supportive network of like-minded women.”

Fiona Smith – BWPA 624squadron.com Scholarship

“I am making my way through the Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) theory syllabus and exams, and my special mission to France, which I was awarded the scholarship to carry out, will go towards the hours building that I require for the CPL course. I am incredibly grateful for the support and encouragement of the BWPA’s members.”

Jayne Stubbs – Easy PPL Ground School Scholarship

“My BWPA Easy PPL Ground School Scholarship has been invaluable! As a mature student I have made full use of the excellent resources, taking the time I needed to really learn the material and then using the mock exams to build my confidence. I have passed five CAA exams so far, all first time, with an average score of 93%. I am looking forward to completing the next four. It has all helped my understanding of the hands-on flying, which, of course, I am loving. Thank you so much!”

Rebekah Yore – BWPA Bristol Groundschool ATPL Scholarship

“Winning the BWPA Bristol Groundschool ATPL Scholarship last year was a very heartfelt and meaningful affirmation of support for my dream to become a professional emergency response pilot. Just one glance through the news these days demonstrates how important a role aviation plays in supporting those in need, especially in times of crisis. Thanks to the BWPA’s belief in my aspirations, I have started my revision with Bristol Groundschool while completing my PhD in disaster risk reduction this year. Upon graduation, I will turn to full time flight study and prepare for my commercial and instrument qualifications.”
