BWPA members attend Women in Aviation event

 In News

On Friday 1 July, BWPA member Katherine Moloney, Director at Transair Flight Equipment, brought 25 women together at Brighton City Airport to celebrate the stories and shared interests of women who fly.

“I decided to organise this event to bring together women from all backgrounds in aviation, including engineers, pilots and air traffic controllers,” says Katherine. “The day was the culmination of months of work and anticipation, and I am so glad it was well received. It was fantastic meeting so many ladies who each had their own story to tell about how they got into aviation, and their journey so far.”

Aviatrixes from all across the UK drove and flew in for the event. BWPA member and Competition Director of the 2022 Women’s World Gliding Championships, Liz Sparrow, flew in from Lasham Airfield in her glider, which drew much interest from the other attendees!

Everyone had a chance to socialise and exchange stories while enjoying a delicious buffet lunch.  One lucky winner also received a Bose Quiet Comfort Audio Headset as a raffle prize, donated by Bose Aviation. After a few hours of exchanging stories, everyone headed home with a generous goodie bag.

“I loved meeting so many people with similar interests, and also ladies I had worked with remotely but not met in person. Thanks so much to Katherine for organising this event,” commented Steph Smith, the BWPA’s Social Media Manager.

“I am feeling more motivated than ever after to speaking to like-minded women who are all so inspiring” said Amy, an aspiring commercial pilot.

Katherine hopes to host similar events in the future. “I was really inspired meeting so many different people,” she says. “I look forward to hosting future Transair ‘Women in Aviation’ events.”

Transair are the largest supplier of supplier of Flight Equipment in Europe, supplying both general aviation and commercial pilots worldwide. Their head office and shop is based at Brighton City Airport, with a distribution centre at Solent Airport. Event attendees had the opportunity to make some important flying-related purchases in Transair’s store before heading home.
