Members’ adventures September 2026

 In Member Articles, News, Uncategorised

September’s Members’ Adventures takes us on a wonderfully varied journey through the skies, celebrating the spirit of adventure and the many different ways our BWPA members enjoy flying. From Catalinas heading to Sweden and the thrill of aerobatics, to taking to the water in seaplanes, embracing the freedom of microlight flying, or venturing to Antarctica to spend the winter, our members continue to push boundaries and explore new horizons. Each story is a reminder of the diversity of aviation and the passion for flight that brings our BWPA community together.

Bev Reardon went on a fly-out to Elvington Airfield with a visit to Yorkshire Air Museum. She did some nice formation flying with other Skyrangers and Flexwings who joined them from Otherton Airfield.

Emily took her last flight before a three-week holiday. She completed vortex training, including losing control and recovering.

Ruby Stocks passed her Touring Motor Glider (TMG) skills test last weekend at Lasham Gliding Society, meaning she has now qualified for a NPPL. Congratulations Ruby!

Helen Hennessy took to the circuit at Newcastle Aerodrome.

Joan Walsh took her teenage grandson for his first flight in a recreational aircraft, a Thruster T600T out of Rayne Hall Farm Airfield. “Pity he can’t log it ‘cos I let my instructor rating go a while back, but it’s all experience isn’t it… and he enjoyed it.”

Louise Rotheram-Smith flew Concorde! Sadly not the real thing, but the simulator at Brooklands Museum. Highly recommended.

Anna Taplin took her friends to Sandown on the Isle of Wight, her first flight with more than one passenger.

Nancy Lillington had another fantastic adventure flying from Tatenhill Airport to North Weald Airfield, and then onto Old Buckenham Aerodrome, before flying down the coastline and finishing up at Beccles Aerodrome for an overnight stay in Lowestoft! The highlight was flying over her grandmother’s old house on the cliffs. The weather was a bit bouncy on the way out and they were all weathered in for a few hours leaving Beccles Aerodrome, but a fantastic few days flying!

Sharon Nicholson flew the Catalina as a relief pilot to the Swedish Air Force Centenary celebrations in Malmen, Sweden. Wow!

Steph Smith flew around San Francisco Bay in a de Havilland Canada DHC-2 Beaver for her birthday!

Not much flying happened in September for Vero Pepperrell, but on this gorgeous still day, she flew over glinting Grafham Water.

Vicky Auld headed South for the winter in Antarctica.

Vicky Auld on day one of the journey South…

Lisa AG very much enjoyed getting extremely thrown around in an Extra EA-300. What an awesome aeroplane that is.
