Members’ adventures May 2026

 In Member Articles, News

May brought a heatwave and plenty of flyable days across the country. Enjoy these great photos showing our members making the most of it with vintage aircraft, coastal flights, and even the balloons getting out.

Anna Taplin took her brother up flying for the first time since getting her PPL and he absolutely loved it. They flew along the South Coast, around Beachy Head and back up over their house where they could see their parents waving from the ground!

Bev Reardon flew down to Garston Airfield for breakfast in the nearby village of Marshfield. Then on to Weston Zoyland Airfield for a brew, and then back up the coast over Weston-super-Mare and Bristol. An epic adventure!

Charlie Manning took their daughter flying in the Stampe.

Fiona Macaskill completed a transit across Bristol International; it’s quiet on a Sunday evening, so easy!

Hannah Stone got in some circuits down at Shoreham Airport.

Louise Rotheram-Smith took a stunning photo of some balloons going for a dip at the Midlands Air Festival.

Sarah Smith didn’t manage to get in the sky as pilot, but did love her Airline Pilot Standard Multi-Crew Cooperation (APS MCC) course with Simtech Aviation in Dublin (plus the flight there and back). She also enjoyed the Midlands Air Festival, though was sad to have chosen the day where she couldn’t go up in a balloon, but such is flying!

Sharon Nicholson took her first ever Catalina flight out of Duxford Airfield, and with a significant ground crew and passenger load. A special day for Sharon…..

Steph Smith put a new airfield in her logbook, taking the Rearwin over to Oaksey Park Airfield.

Taylor Craft Spotted some visitors at work…

Vickie Allport got lots of flying done in May, including her first solo navigation flight from Teesside, onto Barnard Castle, Durham, Seaham, and finishing in Hartlepool.
