International Men’s Day 2025
Today is International Men’s Day 2025, and we are celebrating by introducing you to some of the men who are BWPA members.
We believe progress happens when we all lift each other up, and our membership is open to everyone who supports women in aviation!
Martin Hatton
I have always believed that anyone should be able to pursue whatever career or hobby they choose, irrespective of gender. When I became a flying instructor and met my future wife, Claire (BWPA Membership Coordinator), who was already an instructor at the flying school, I used to go to BWPA events with her; they were always an enjoyable day out – a group of people who are passionate about aviation, talking about aviation!
It has been interesting to watch it evolve over the years into the organisation it is today. I still enjoy coming to events, chatting with the other members and getting to know everyone. It is a great way for people new to the industry to meet people with many years of experience, and be able to make new connections to help them on their way.

Ian Shelton
I am an associate member of the BWPA to support my wife, Jane, who is a pilot in training. Jane is disabled and has to use a wheelchair.
In supporting her with her journey, I have met a lot of lovely people along the way. I enjoy being an associate member of the BWPA and being able to support my wife and other women in aviation.
I am looking forward to the day when Jane gets her pilot’s licence, maybe then I will be able to fly with her!

Tad Dippel
I’m a pilot, aviation photographer, and an avid aviation enthusiast! I became an associate member of the BWPA to express my support and to contribute practically by volunteering and assisting at events.
Before marrying Sharon (BWPA Chairwoman), I hadn’t fully appreciated how underrepresented women are in aviation. Now, I aim to offer support, whether that be through my role in operations at Andrewsfield Aerodrome by encouraging female students in their progress, or by helping to organise the BWPA archives.
