Members’ adventures August 2025
August saw more airshows, air races, and cross country adventures. Some members worked on new ratings, new types of aircraft, and brushed up on their aviation skills…
Annabel Cook continued engine break-in flights in her GlaStar, with a trip to Barton alongside her friend and LAA coach, Si. They had a few minutes of excitement on the way back, with an engine blip at 1150 ft.
Bev Reardon enjoyed practicing nil wind touch-and-goes on a 300m grass strip at Watnall International.
Catherine Ruddick flew to Northern Ireland for the Schneider Trophy air racing event, and kept hydrated with her BWPA water bottle.
Gemma Wickens had her first flight in a gyrocopter at Rochester Airport, courtesy of her dad who is also learning to fly them. She said it was awesome, but wished she could have taken some inflight photos. Gemma recommends Kai Maurer at GyroSchool for anyone who is interested in learning, or just having a go!
Holly Ashurst flew some ILS approaches at Humberside Airport and got a lovely view of the clouds on her way back to Retford Gamston Airport.
Julie Garside flew over the rainbow between passing showers over the North Downs ridge in Kent.
Jo Sharpe enjoyed brunch at Tatenhill Airfield on a visit from Barton Aerodrome, and had the chance to catch up with some fellow BWPA members.
Maeghan Dee started flying a SportCruiser this month, and said it was lovely to fly. This photo was taken around the New Forest National Park area.

Steph Smith took her father-in-law up for a Tiger Moth flight for his 70th birthday. He’s a huge F1 fan, so they completed a few orbits over Silverstone Circuit so he could take some photos.
Vero Pepperrell had a special moment when she watched the Bristol Blenheim land behind her Cirrus and a Hawker Hurricane after she camped in the field overnight at the Cosby Victory Show.
Anna Taplin had her first aerobatics flight in a Slingsby. She highly recommends it to those who are thinking of trying it!
