International Women’s Day 2024: Inspire Inclusion
Since its establishment in 1955, BWPA has remained dedicated to fostering inclusivity in aviation for individuals of all ages and backgrounds. Members join BWPA to expand their networks, receive support and engage with other women in aviation. Providing scholarships, engaging in STEM outreach initiatives, offering flying experiences and educational opportunities, facilitating social gatherings, giving career guidance, and offering support are among the numerous activities that have that have served to enthuse women in aviation. The BWPA also takes pride in recognising and honouring the accomplishments of women in aviation through awards and shoutouts, ensuring that our members have genuine role models to emulate.
Just as Amelia Earhart said, “Some of us have great runways already built for us. If you have one, take off. But if you don’t have one, realise it is your responsibility to grab a shovel and build one for yourself and for those who will follow after you.”
In pursuit of advancing as an inclusive association and staying informed about strategies for promoting equality and diversity in aviation, numerous BWPA members participated in the Inclusivity in Aviation Reception held in Westminster on 22 February 2024. Hosted by the Air League and the British Gliding Association, this event was designed to raise awareness about ongoing efforts to enhance inclusivity within the aviation sector and to identify areas for potential improvement to ensure aviation accessibility for all. The reception featured keynote addresses by representatives from the aviation industry, geared towards cultivating inclusivity within the industry.
