A new regional group for Scotland

The first meeting of the new Scottish Regional Group took place on Sunday 5 July and was a brilliant success.

Run by Alison Field, who lives in Livingston in West Lothian, the inaugural meeting was an opportunity for the local BWPA members to get to know each other, find out where everyone lives, and learn about how people got into aviation and their aspirations for the future.

The group members live as far north as Lossiemouth and have a variety of aviation backgrounds, from students to commercial pilots.

“Getting to meet like-minded people was one of the top reasons everyone gave for joining the BWPA. We are all excited to have the ability to keep in touch and meet up with members located close by,” said Alison.

The group discussed what they would like to achieve and the types of events everyone would be interested in. There were many suggestions, including gliding, skydiving, mountain flying and – of course – visiting all of the beautiful Highlands and islands airports, such as the unique Barra, which has the world’s only beach airport used for scheduled flights.

The first in-person activity will be a gliding day at Loch Leven, but until restrictions lift the group will be keeping in touch via Zoom and WhatsApp.

“We are looking forward to the next Zoom meeting and welcoming any new members interested in joining in too,” concludes Alison.
