A great start for new BWPA Northwest Regional Group

The BWPA Northwest Regional Group has now had three meetings and is rapidly gathering momentum. Regional coordinator Claire Hatton tells us more…

“Our first meeting took place on Wednesday 12 August and was brilliantly well-attended for an inaugural meeting. This initial gathering was an opportunity for the Northwest Regional Group members to introduce themselves and get to know each other.

Members in the region participate in flying in a range of different ways. We have PPL holders, flying instructors, airline pilots, commercial helicopter pilots and student pilots at various stages of training.

For our second meeting, held on 10 September, we were treated to an informative talk on the subject of ‘Manchester Radar’ by Kevin Edmunds, a senior Air Traffic Controller, whose airspace is central to the region.

Our October meeting was another success and an opportunity for the members to have a social catch up and a chat; everyone enjoyed hearing about each other’s progress, interspersed with anecdotes and stories about exams and learning to land.

Our Regional Group members are really looking forward to being able to meet up in person when the pandemic situation permits. For now, though, we are happy to be able to connect with each other via our monthly Zoom meetings and, on a more regular basis, via the Northwest Region WhatsApp group.

It has been a pleasure to bring this enthusiastic group of women together. Each of us brings our own perspective and our own experiences in aviation, but I can tell already that we are going to be great supporters of each other and hopefully great friends.

If you live in the northwest and would like to join our Regional Group, please email Helen at membership@bwpa.co.uk to state your interest. Our next meeting is on 2 November and you will be made very welcome!”
