This year, we are pleased to be able to award up to five £1,500 BWPA Flying Start Scholarships to female pilots. The scholarships are for new and inexperienced pilots, supporting them in gaining their first qualifications for any type of flying. One of these scholarships is sponsored by SkyDemon and includes a one-year subscription to the SkyDemon VFR flight planning and navigation software.
In addition to the five BWPA Flying Start Scholarships, the Oriana Pepper Scholarship will be awarded to an applicant who aspires to become a commercial pilot. This scholarship will be awarded to an applicant of either the BWPA Flying High or Flying Start Scholarships at the discretion of the panellists, BWPA Scholarship Coordinator and BWPA Chairwoman.
All applicants must be members of the BWPA. Applications are not restricted to UK citizens or residents, but winners must carry out their scholarship flying in the UK or Channel Islands. There are no age restrictions, but applicants under the age of 18 must have a parent’s/guardian’s permission. The BWPA is an inclusive organisation; we welcome applications from any woman.
The scholarships will be awarded to the female pilots who, in the opinion of the selection panel, show the most promise for their future flying. The selection panel will comprise representatives from the BWPA and other relevant flying organisations.
To apply, please read our scholarship terms and conditions and complete the form below before 17:00 on Thursday 26 May 2022.
The selection panel may contact you with further questions and may request an interview (which would be via Zoom), and will contact your named supporter if you are shortlisted.
The scholarship will be paid to a suitable flying association, school or club, agreed between the selection panel and each winner. The winners will also have the opportunity to be formally congratulated at our Christmas Lunch and Awards ceremony in December 2022, at a date and venue yet to be decided.
The BWPA reserves the right to make no award if no suitable candidates are identified.
If you have any questions or are unable to complete the application online, please email us.
