Scholarship Winners 2018
It is with great pleasure that the BWPA announces its Spring 2018 Scholarship winners. Five scholarships were offered – two flying scholarships and three ATPL ground school scholarships.
The BWPA Air Total Flying Futures Scholarship 2018, to the value of £1000, is for a flying project which describes a realistic, feasible, well-planned and interesting project which also has a high chance of completion. This award, donated by Air Total, has been won by Corrine Dennis. Corrine is a BAeA competitor at Advanced Level who owns, operates, displays and built her Pitts Special G-TWRL. Corrine will use the award to obtain suitable ground-to-air critique from one of the UK’s leading aerobatic trainers in order to improve her accuracy and display artistry.
The recipient of the BWPA Dame Margaret Joan Anstee Scholarship 2018 is Lauren Richardson (Wilson). The award, for £500, is for a female pilot who demonstrates the intention to lead a strong aviation-related life, to be used towards gaining a qualification in any type of flying which is integral to those plans. It is kindly donated by a BWPA member and her partner. Lauren is a well-known display pilot, also with a Pitts Special, and has recently gained her CPL(A). She now plans to complete a multi-engine instrument rating, on the route to becoming a commercially qualified pilot.
One full-fee Scholarship for ATPL ground School was donated by CATS and two half-fee Scholarships by BGS, and we thank both organisations for their ongoing support for BWPA. The winner of the CATS Scholarship is Rachelle Fays. Rachelle is a qualified Occupational Therapist, working as a Flying Instructor, who plans to become an advanced instructor.
The winners of the two BGS Scholarships are Jessica DeMelo and Samantha Waller. Jessica is a PPL, based at East Midlands Airport, who wishes to train as a commercially qualified airline pilot. Samantha worked for the Red Bull Air Races, and now works as BA cabin crew whilst undertaking commercial training.
There were many impressive applicants for the BWPA Scholarships. The selection panel would like to thank all who applied, thank our sponsors and congratulate all our winners – we look forward to hearing of their progress.
